Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

9-25-2014
Larry Edwards

An excellent fishing report from Puerto Morelos that reflected very good fishing for the 24 outings this past week and even better, very decent overall weather conditions for the anglers. A couple of unexpected sailfish were reported in the mixed catches but more noticeable was the numbers of dorado taken with most of the fish in the 20-35 lb. ranges. The overall catches for the 24 days fished reflected 2 sailfish, 20 dorado, 16 giant barracuda, 10 bonito, 11 Spanish mackerel, 1 wahoo, 1 needlefish, 31 grouper, 45 banana fish, 32 triggerfish, 16 snappers, 4 porgy, 14 soapfish and 7 chac-chi fish.

PM Climate: Air temps ranged from 75 nights to 86 daytime highs with mostly light and variable surface breezes flowing in from the easterly directions. Humidity levels were high and there were daily afternoon and evening thunder-showers.

Sea Conditions: Very good for the most part with surface winds that didn't exceed 8-9 mph., flowing in from the easterly directions. Sea temps holding stable 82-83 degrees and very good off-shore clarity.

Best Bait: Continues to be the readily available ballyhoo baits that are provided freshly caught on a daily basis and included in the charter rate.
