Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Fishing Report
9-25-2014
Larry Edwards
According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the fishing/catching is really good for bigger dorado and sailfish in an area just 20 miles offshore and a little southwest of the entrance to the Bay. A few marlin also being landed at the 20 mile mark Also, lots of dorados in a myriad of sizes, under the logs and trash in and along the tidelines and fairly easy limit type fishing. The inshore fishing continues to be productive for the Sierra and many bonitos but an absence of roosterfish right now. The month has been severely lacking for anglers and most of the boats are in for annual maintenance programs. According to Temo, the pier has almost no angler traffic and he has taken his boat out of the water until the weather changes a bit for the better.
I/Z Climate: Another wet week for Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo with scattered T-storms on a daily basis, mostly in the late afternoons and nights. Air temps ranged from 73 nights to 87 daytime highs with an 84% humidity level.
Sea Conditions: Much better now but still somewhat unsettled in the offshore waters. Temps stable at 85-86 all over. Surface breezes are mostly from the southerly directions to about 10 mph. and fairly calm mornings.
Best Fishing Area: Definitely along the tide lines for dorados and at the 20-mile mark for billfish and bigger dorados.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits working very well for the billfish and the larger dorados in the offshore waters. Smaller feathers and artificials working well along the tide lines but you have to pay attention to cleaning the debris off the lures when trolling.
Bait Supply: Readily available for freshly caught baits for rigging. Live bait is available at $5.00 per dozen.
