Having just returned from the 2 day fly fishing experience with Pat Jaeger, I thought I would give you some feed back regarding the weekend at Mammoth/Bishop. First of all, let me say that Pat Jaeger is aptly named... I think it's the Dutch word for Hunter, and Pat is truly a hunter of fish.

He was able to communicate techniques to me that I could translate into action. I never had so many strikes and actual successes while fishing in my life.

I now feel comfortable in using techniques with dry flies, dry flies and droppers, nymphing with and without indicators and weights, and casting streamers down current.

Pat showed us how to actually find the fish and hunt them down. He was successful in teaching me the importance of slowing down, breaking each strategy into parts, and implementing them smoothly and with purpose.

The other thing I learned was that in tying my knots, to be precise and neat. I noticed that I got no strikes whatsoever if even my clinch knot was off, or, if there was an extra knot in the tippet.

For the first time, I know that I took up the right sport in fly fishing as up until now I had many doubts.

He gave us many other tips and simplified everything to the point of enjoying the sport without becoming too cerebral.

Pat's teaching ability is second to none and I can't say enough good things about the weekend.

My only disappointment was that around 3 PM on Sunday, while standing chest deep in the Owens River (wet wading) I finally landed a nice fish when thunder and lightning moved in. Pat made me realize that I was standing in water with a 9 foot lightning rod in my hand. It was time to call it a day.

This was one of the best fishing weekends ever and it has converted me from spin cast fishing to "HUNTING" with a fly rod.

Best regards,
David Watson
