Fish Report from Oroville Reservoir from Ron Gandolfi
6-4-2013
Ron Gandolfi
I can not believe that Spring has passed and Summer is here. This next week is all in the 90's to 100 . That being said the fishing is still good but is changing as most of the bass are in the post spawn phase. Still lots of bass are being seen on beds, but most are through with their spawn.
All through the lake now you can see the clouds of bass fry. Always good to see as the lake regenerates and it is why Lake Oroville has been noted as the top 24 th, Lake in the USA by Bass Magazine. Pictured above is Bryn Melton of Chico who landed this 3 lb female spot from the shallows on the Main Body just two weeks ago. A lot of nice bass were taking from this area . Just this week we had some nice bass come from the West Branch and the North Fork.
Like Photo #2 a 2 1/2 plus spot caught by Jeni Harris with here proud hubby Dan looking on.
From this point in the season we will see the reaction bite start with lipless crank baits, top water baits and spinner baits. The bite will be in the early morning and evening on the most part but on some days the reaction bite will continue all through the day. I look forward to this time of the year just for the lipless crank bite as it can be the hardest strike of all during the year. Summer is here so give me a call and we can have some great times on the lake.
Best regards,
Ron
