Snapper bite continues to be strong & for a 2nd week it is the "fish of the week" at Puerto Morelos

We also had another off-season sailfish taken aboard the "Aries VIII" this past week and it continues to appear the annual billfish season will have an early take-off for 2013. Seems like every week produces an occasional sailfish here & there in the Puerto Morelos proximity. This past week produced a 14 fish variety for the anglers for their 23 days fished and included 1 sailfish, 13 blackfin tuna, 2 giant Atlantic barracuda, 6 Spanish mackerel, 30 bonito, 5 amberjack, 1 grouper, 19 triggerfish, 16 banana fish, 3 strawberry fish, 11 soapfish, 1 needlefish, 2 porgy and 51 snappers.

PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm and comfortable days with temps that ranged from 60 nights to 85 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding stable at 80 degrees with mostly light and variable surface breezes to 15 mph, mostly flowing in from the northerly directions.

Best Bait & Supply: The bait of choice continues to be the always available ballyhoo that is provided freshly caught on a daily basis. The ballyhoo baits are used in the outriggers, downriggers and bottom fishing and can range from natural baits to rigged baits with colored skirts, filleted slabs and chunks.
