The striper bite from the Marina El Cid, Mazatlan, continues to offer a 50-50 chance for the anglers and for March, that is excellent fishing. This is usually the time of the year when the water temps are coolest and the billfish disappear until the water temps trend is in an upward movement. However, 2013 has been considerably different and the water temps have held above normal and the billfish continue to bite. The overall catch report for 23 offshore fishing days reflected 11 stripers, (4 released) 1 sailfish and 6 jack crevalle. This bite held up very well right through the full moon phase and as long as the sea temps hold, the bite should continue or get better right into spring vacation time. The inshore fishing has been good for bottom fishing and producing near limits on snappers, both red & white snappers, along with a good bite on triggerfish. Overall counts for 3 days fished reflected 35 white snappers, 15 red snappers and 24 triggerfish.

Mazatlan Climate: Cool mornings and evenings remain and light jackets still recommended. Temps ranging from 42 nights to 83 daytime highs under mostly cloudy skies.

Sea Conditions: Inshore waters remain coolish at 65-66 degrees and the offshore waters stable at 70. Surface breezes ranging from light & variable to 20 mph and mostly calm seas to some pm wind chop.

Best Fishing Area: There is no real concentration of fish but for the most part, the boats fished out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid this past week, in the 18-15 mile ranges.

Best Lure/Bait: The fresh rigged trolling baits were the bait of choice this past week for the billfish and were working very well.

Bait Supply: Excellent! Good bait supply for fresh rigged trolling baits and good live bait supply for anglers on a daily basis.
