The fishing at Zihuatanejo slowed with the full moon

According to our on-the-spot reporter for Zihuatanejo, the fishing, just following the full moon, slowed down quite a bit and while they were seeing plenty of fish, they were not overly eager to bite the baits or the lures. The better bite was early, right after dayligght and to about 10 am, but after 10am, it was very difficult to get bit. We had one of the boats report a double on striped marlin but most of the boats were reporting single strikes, very different from the week before. We are still having some good dorado caches with nice quality sized dorado, mostly in the 20-40 lb. ranges. The inshore action took a dip, too, and while it remains good for the Sierra and jack crevalle, the roosterfish have apparently moved from the area, or perhaps into the deeper water.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny during the early part of the week and turning mostly cloudy by the end of the week with a slight chance of some rain in the forecast. Temps remained very good throughout the week and ranged from 70 nights to 86 daytime highs and light tropical surface breezes along the beach.

Sea Conditions: Water temps holding stable at 84 inshore to 85 offshore with very good clarity from the 9-mile mark outside the Bay and outbound from there.

Best Fishing Area: According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the fish have moved farther offshore to about the 20 mile mark and the catching slowed down immediately following the full moon phase for both, the inshore fish and the offshore fish. The inshore action was best in the Salidita Beach area for the Sierra and jack Crevalle.

Best Bait/Lure: The best bait for the offshore fishing has been the freshly rigged trolling baits for the billfish and the dorado were biting pretty good on both, artificials and rigged baits.

Bait Supply: The bait supply remains consistently good for this area with plenty of live bait and an excellent supply of freshly caught baits for rigging.
