12-15-2012
Wohlford Lake Staff
Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Open seven days a week. (closed x-mas day)
Dock Closes: 4:30 P.M.
Last Plant: 4,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout Wednesday, December 6th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs. of Rainbow trout Wednesday, December 19th
Water Temperature: At surface 59.54 f., 7.28 D.O. @ 15' 59.72 f., 7.05 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available Mon-Thurs for 35$ each.
The opening weekend of trout season was ideal with beautiful weather and many limits taken. Roy Tornello of Oceanside can claim the biggest trout thus far with his 7.75# rainbow caught on a nightcrawler at Murphy's Rock. Sam Avila came in second with a 6.80# Trout hooked on spring green powerbait in Willow Cove. Other notable catches include Ryan McCowan's 6.10#, Derek Hirato's 6.00#, Jason Casison's 5.90# and Jose Flores's5.50#. The rains continue to come and depending on the amount of rain we receive the lake often becomes stained from the runoff. Places like Willow Cove will be among the first to feel the effects. The South Shore Rock pile often provides good fishing during periods of inclement weather.
Largemouth Bass can be found around structure lying in wait for the recently stocked trout. This is an excellent time to be using a swimbait that looks like a small trout. Dark colored plastics and crawdads are some other favorites.
