Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available Mon-Thurs for 35$ each.

Opening day of trout season has arrived and the fishing has been brisk with many limits taken. Some of the very early results were as follows John O Flynn of Balboa landed a 7.45# trout on a Kastmaster in Boat Dock Cove. Joseph Lamb of Escondido weighed in a 6.20# trout on a silver Kastmaster at Crappie Rock and Ken Ercek of Valley Center produced a 6.05# fish on powerbait also at Crappie Rock. With 12,000 lbs of Nebraska Tailwalker Trout plants scheduled in just the first two months Lake Wohlford promises to be the spot for limit style fishing and trophy sized trout this winter.

Huge Catfish continue to be caught. Johnny One of Escondido brought in a 19.60# Catfish on Sunday using cut mackerel in Oakvale Cove and young Tyler Sengsouly caught a 12.50# using the same bait at that same location. Catfish prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.

Largemouth Bass can be found around structure lying in wait for the recently stocked trout. This is an excellent time to be using a swimbait that looks like a small trout. Dark colored plastics and crawdads are some other favorites.
