In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Opening day is just a week away! Beginning December eighth the lake will once again be open for weekday fishing. With 12,000 lbs of Nebraska Tailwalker Trout plants scheduled in just the first two months Lake Wohlford promises to be the spot for limit style fishing and trophy sized trout this winter. Here is what's new for the 2012-2013 season. The senior boat discount, twenty dollars for the whole day, for seniors age 60+ now is available Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will now be offering a half day price of thirty five dollars for our Bass boats Monday through Thursdays after 1:00 p.m. We will continue to discount boats for active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The lake is once again open to bow-fishing, for carp, for more details visit our website.

The parade of giant Catfish to our boat dock scale continues. Saturday saw Mike Macleod of Escondido land a 28.60# Catfish on cut mackerel at the West Buoys. Typically a Catfish that large would be the biggest fish caught at the lake all year and a lock for the whopper contest, but this November it came in fourth. Catfish prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.
