Lake Oroville Fall & Winter fishing has been off the hook, Bass are coming to shallower water

Ron Gandolfi
Hi everyone, these last few weeks on Lake Oroville have been some of the best Fall/Winter fishing I have seen on the Lake. Since we had the rain the lake dynamics have changed quite a bit. Where before the rain a lot of the bigger bass were content to stay deep in the 40-60 foot range and forage the pond smelt at that depth. Now the lake has risen nearly 50 feet with good inflows and warm temps for this time of year. Water temps remain in the upper 40's to low 50's with the water stained from the storms. All this has created great fishing. The larger bass have now moved up into water from 10-30 feet and in some places even in the 2-5 foot depth. The reaction bite has been awesome using the Phenix Baits spinner baits on points inside and outside of coves and on walls and on wood. Senkos have been good with worm heads and also worms with finesse jigs by Paradise Tackle Co. Jigs also working well and the A- rig and rip baits have been producing. Drop shot and spoons were working really well when the bass were deeper but will pick back up when the water cools down and clears.
Average bags have been in the 10 -11 lb range with good bags in the 12-14lb range. I took out a great guy yesterday who had a terrific day with a 16lb-14oz. bag. His two big fish were a 5-4 lg. mouth and a 3-8 spot. To say the least he was pretty excited!!
If you would like to have more information or to book a trip call me at 530-872-0907.
Best regards,
Ron
