Royal Polaris returns from 10 Day Trip, October 19, 2012
10-19-2012
Bill Roecker
Roy Rose docked Royal Polaris at Fisherman's Landing October 19 after a ten-day trip with 20 anglers, who scored limits of yellowtail and yellowfin tuna, along with 50 dorado and over three dozen wahoo.
Rose tied up the boat at dawn and proceeded to unload his passengers and their fish. Phil Faubert of Huntington Beach won first place for a 33-pound yellowfin tuna. Ron Lewis of San Francisco won second place for a 32-pound dorado, and Michael Bain of Costa Mesa got third for a 26-pound yellowfin. Bob Kubota, Photo #1 a fisherman aboard the Royal Polaris for many years, posed with a good wahoo that had been "kissed" by a shark, which left tooth marks on one side. "We fished short of Paul, and kept moving ahead," said Karl "Johnnie Holmes" Fechner pictured above of Palos Verdes, another long-time long ranger and a retired airline pilot. "We got our limits of tuna and yellowtail, and everyone had a 'hoo!"
