The Royal Polaris Shimano Trip Returns
9-2-2011
Bill Roecker
Mark Mills chartermastered the five-day trip on Royal Polaris with skipper Roy Rose that returned to Fisherman's Landing September 2. Many of the 30 anglers aboard were allowed the use of new Shimano gear and lures.
"Fishing was very good," said skipper Rose on the dock. "It was excellent for bluefin, yellowfin and yellowtail." Most of the fish were offloaded into bins going to Fisherman's Processing, so Dan Tomich of San Pedro was asked by Rose to pose for a shot with some typical fish.
Don Crabtree of Bakersfield won first place for a 40-pound white seabass. Richard Abelster of Garden Grove won second place for a 27-pound bluefin tuna, and Mark Tomich of Moorpark won third place for a 20.8-pound yellowfin tuna.
