Puerto Morelos Fishing Report

10-21-2010
Larry Edwards

An unusual week for the fishermen from Puerto Morelos followed Hurricane Paula's departure from the area. For whatever reason, the aftermath of the storm triggered sailfish action in October, which is seasonally abnormal, with April May being the in-season for sails. While the anglers have been landing a sailfish here & there for the past few weeks, this week clearly reflected more activity with nearly half the boats landing a sailfish and more than that having the opportunity. The overall fish counts for the 15 days fished reflected 7 sailfish, 8 Atlantic barracuda, 2 Spanish mackerel, 2 king mackerel, 1 yellowfin tuna, 28 bonito, 9 triggerfish, 2 amberjack and 6 grouper.

PM Climate: Alternating periods of sun & clouds with temps from 68 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Back to calmness throughout the area with temps remaining constant at 83-84 and light surface breezes.

Best Bait/Lure: The main action continues to be on the rigged and un- rigged ballyhoo taken in the local area.

Bait Supply: Good supply without interruption.
