Cabo San Lucas Fishing Report

10-21-2010
Larry Edwards

The first day of the Bisbee Tournament was perhaps the best first fishing day the tournament has ever had and as always, an assortment of unfounded rumors to go along with the day. At the moment, we don't have the day's final information but reports say there were 6-7 qualifying fish weighed in for the day and still, another two days left to produce the final trophy. 2010 marks the first year in the Bisbee Tournament history that we had no boats fishing in the event and I would assume that the overall entry numbers were down for this year. Separate from the Tournament, the overall fishing has been very good, especially for dorado, and even a good report for the wahoo catches with 95% of the action still taking place on the Pacific side of Cabo. The overall combined fish counts for 35 fished days reflected 14 stripers released, 1 sailfish released, 8 yellowfin tuna, 10 wahoo and 114 dorado.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny and clear with temps from 68 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Pacific side, Finger Bank to Jaime Bank and inshore to Cristobal @81-82. Cristobal and around to Chileno @83. Chileno and out to the 95, up to the 11250 and into the Gorda Banks at 84-85. Clean, blue water in all directions with very light surface breezes.

Best Lure/Bait: Stripers have been about 50-50 on bait and lures, wahoo on the black & purple artificials, dorado on lures & live bait and tuna on the feathers.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be on the Pacific side with notable action increasing in the Golden Gate Bank area.

Live Bait Supply: Remains good even with the increased requirement for the Tournament.
