Ixtapa - Zihuatanejo Fishing Report

10-21-2010
Larry Edwards

According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the boats fared much better this past week from Zihuatanejo, with the water clearing at about 15 miles and beyond. Temo reported good striper, sailfish and dorado action right at the green/blue water current line where the floating debris is being found. The inshore action is good for jack cravelle, bonito and Sierra, near the rocks at Ixtapa Island and the roosterfish are providing much better action along the white sandy beaches. He reported much improved water conditions now that the rainy season is over, excellent weather, calm seas and mostly sunny days.

IZ Climate: Mostly sunny with intermittent clouds and temps from 72 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm throughout the area with temps at 84 inshore and rising to 86 offshore. Greenish water to about 15 miles, then bluing to clean water.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits producing good action on the billfish and dorado in the offshore waters. Live bait working well inshore along with red & white pencil poppers.

Best Fishing Area: The offshore fishing takes off right about 15 miles at the current break and water clarity change.

Bait Supply: Good supply in this area.
