Mazatlan Fishing Report
10-14-2010
Larry Edwards
The offshore fishing from Mazatlan has, for whatever unknown reason,
fallen back to being a bit difficult for the anglers. On the other
hand, the inshore fishing from the super pangas has spiraled upward
and kept the anglers in bite action for most of the fishing days.
Dorado continues to be the primary source of action, both offshore
and inshore and the overall fish reports reflected for 7 offshore
fishing days produced 1 sailfish, 2 yellowfin tuna and 27 dorado for
their efforts. The inshore super pangs, also reporting in for 7 days
fished, reflected 1 sailfish, 30 dorado, 1 yellowfin tuna, 6 corvina,
5 pargo, 3 sierra, 21 jack cravelle, 6 cochitos and 3 roncachos.
Mazatlan Climate: Some partly cloudy days with good sunshine periods
and temps that ranged from 73 nights to 90 daytime highs and light &
variable surface breezes at 5-10 knots for the area.
Sea Conditions: Near excellent. From the beach to 10 miles or so offshore the temp is 89-90. From 10-25 miles offshorel, the temp is at 88 and from 25 and on out the temp is holding at 85-86. Greenish water to about 5 miles and bluing to about 20 miles and a clean green patch for the next 5 miles and back to blue beyond.
Best Fishing Area: None reported. The boats were scattered about and moved around over a large area with no concentrations reported for any area.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were best and live baits very good on the drop back for the dorado. Live bait supply: Remained good through the week.

According to Captain Temo Verboonen, the rains have tapered off and it is appearing to be the tail end of the rainy season for their area. He reports that the inshore fishing is a good option right now because the waters are clearing and the jacks and bonito have moved in and the roosterfish are providing some good action, too. There is still not much activity to report in the offshore waters and...... Read More
