THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

The optimism still persists for the anglers fishing Cabo and while everyday is a bit different, the bite remains about even with the prior 2 months of reports and everyone, both anglers and crew, are anxiously looking for some change to the unusual slowness with the catching. I believe this is a cyclic period with the fishing for this area and remember when I was running sportfishers from Cabo in the late 70's, I had a stretch of more than 50 days fished from March thru early May that did not produce a single billfish. Those were long and hard fishing days that seemed like there was no end to the lack of fish and back then, as now, we were looking at where to place the blame for the lack of fish. I think it was just the cycle of the time. We all knew that March & April were the slow months for billfish and dorado, but we usually found some good spots of yellowfin tuna, albeit, mostly "footballs", but still, some action for the effort of the day. Right now, there is a scattering of yellowfin for a few lucky boats but overall, it's not much. Nevertheless, it typically tends to gradually change for the better by mid-May, so we may still have another week or two to go? Sure hope so. Our overall fish counts for the week for 11 combined fishing days reflected 1 striper released, 1 mako shark, 4 dorado, 2 wahoo, 2 roosterfish and 21 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Climate: Excellent! Sunny & warm days with temps from 68 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Pacific side remains coolish, 65-71 degrees, rising to 73 by Cabo Falso and slowly increasing to 74 at the Palmilla ridge and into the Sea of Cortez.

Best Fishing Area: None reported.
Best Lure/Bait: None reported.
Live Bait Supply: Very good bait supply
