Puerto Morelos Fish Report

The seasonal sailfish bite jumped into full swing this past week for those anglers that fished the 6-8-hour charters and pursued the billfish. According to Fleet Manager, Armando Gutierrez, "we are seeing an excellent early season start for the sailfish that should continue to improve through the May June time frame". The overall fish counts for 21 boat days fished reflected another wide spectrum fish count that included 17 sailfish, 5 Atlantic barracuda, 2 wahoo, 2 king mackerel, 16 bonito, 9 dorado, 12 grouper, 5 triggerfish and 10 red snapper.

PM Climate: Mostly cloudy but warm days and temps from 70 nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Temps were stable at 79-80 throughout the area, with excellent clarity. Southeasterly tropical breezes to 15 knots created surface wind chop for some of the days but didn't change the overall fish bite, at all.

Best Bait: Both, the rigged and un-rigged ballyhoo were working very well for the billfish and was the bait of choice for all of the various species for the week.
