THE INDEPENDENT SPORTFISHING FLEET

Captain Temo Verboonen was excited with his fish report this week that reflected superb fishing for billfish, especially for the stripers and sailfish. He said the stripers have been smaller fish, with most above the 60 lb. mark, but still not big for this area. Also, the sailfish have been small, too, with many in the 20-25 lb. ranges, but full of acrobatic in the air action for the anglers. The sailfish are in groups and have provided mostly multiple hook-ups, often with 3-4 at a time, offering spectacular aerial displays. All of the bigger blue marlin this week exceeded 260 lbs. but the blue bite has slowed just a little. The yellowfin tuna are in small schools just beyond the 30 mile mark and for the most part, are running with the porpoise and in the 20-30 lb. ranges. The inshore fishing is producing numerous bonito and fair numbers of jack cravelle, but no roosters this past week.

I/Z Climate: Partly cloudy but warm and pleasant days witth temps from 69 nights to 93 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm this week with green water for the first 15 miles and getting clean & clear at 20 miles and beyond.

Best Lure/Bait: The billfish have been fairly eager on the rigged baits and some quality action on the artificials, too, especially with the sailfish.

Bait Supply: Excellent for both live and rigged baits.
