Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Fish Report
3-25-2010
Larry Edwards
It was another billfish bonanza week in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, according
to Captain Temo Verboonen. It was a catchy week's fishing the
produced excellent numbers of blue marlin, striped marlin, a few
black marlin and sailfish all over the place. Multiple jig strikes
was a daily occurrence for most off the boats and almost everyday was
hot billfish action that started at the 12-13 mile mark and continued
outbound to the 30-plus mile mark. Even the yellowfin tuna provided
some good action for a few days at the 30-plus mile mark and many of
the boats fishing farther offshore had excellent tuna catches of fish
that were in the 20-50 lb. ranges. The inshore fishery diminished
with the severe off color water, almost dirty water, that shut the
inshore bite off for now.
IZ Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days with some passing cloud
cover. Temps ranged from 68 nights to 92 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Excellent, mostly calm, with very good clarity in
the water at about 12-14 miles and beyond, with temps stable at 81-82
degrees.
Best Fishing Area: Starting in the 12-13 mile area and wandering
offshore to about 30-35 miles, was enormously productive for billfish
with the yellowfin tuna at the outer edge.
Best Lure/Bait: Billfish were hot on both, lures and bait, with many
multiple billfish strikes throughout the day.
Bait Supply: Excellent, both rigged bait availability and live bait.
