THE GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET AND FISH CABO FLEET

While the fishing and catching has been excellent, the angler activity has been seriously slow for the Christmas week in Cabo San Lucas. High boat for billfish for the week was the "Fish Cabo", releasing 7 stripers for a single fishing day and followed by the "Tuna Time", releasing 10 stripers for two fishing days, with both boats fishing near the Cabo Falso drop-off. Overall, the Pacific side remains the place to be for all species and continues to be very productive for the anglers. Overall fish counts for a combined total of 18 days fished reflected 41 Stripers, (39 releases) 2 Wahoo, (both taken aboard the "Fish Cabo I") 45 dorado and 45 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny with a few partly cloudy days. Temps from 58 nights to 78 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Stable water temps and excellent clarity. Temps holding right at 79 from The Finger Bank on the Pacific side to Los Frailes on the Sea of Cortez side.

Best Fsihing Area: The Cabo Falso drop-off, about 5 miles from the Cabo Harbor was best for the billfish and the Jaime Bank best for the Yellowfin tuna. Dorado are scattered throughout the area.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait continues to be the best ammunition for the billfish, albeit, fair numbers of stripers are being taken on mackerel colored clones and petroleros.

Live Bait Supply: Mostly caballitos with some mackerel in the mix.
