Puerto Morelos Fish Report
12-17-2009
Larry Edwards
We had a first-hand report from Richard Castaneda at Cass Tours,
having fished a 4-hour morning aboard the Pescadora I. He caught 3
barracuda, 1 small reef shark and 1 red snapper that weighed about 15
lbs. or so, and the picture looked like it would have fed a family
of 6 or 8. It was a dandy dinner fish and the crew enjoyed the
opportunity to take it home. The overall catches reflected another
wide variety of critters that is so typical of this area. One just
never knows what they will catch on any given day. The overall
counts for 10 days fished reflected 4 yellowffin tuna, 1 amberjack,
12 king mackerel, 19 barracuda, 9 bonita, 1 reef shark, 3 grouper, 4
red snapper and 1 Sierra.
PM Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 61 nights to 84
daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Several bumpy days with winds from the east, albeit,
still fishable. Temps stable at 83 degrees.
Best Bait/Lure: Ballyhoo still the best, both rigged and un-rigged
baits.
Bait Supply: We have never encountered a bait problem for this area.
