A much improved fishing scenario for Mazatlan this past week as the
boats moved closer to the 1 billfish per boat day fished average and
even reflected a blue marlin in the mix. Also noted this week was
the showing of the yellowfin tuna and providing some new action for
the anglers. Overall catches for 18 days fished reflected 1 blue
marlin, (approximately 225 lbs.) 2 striped marlin, 12 sailfish, 12
dorado and 21 yellowfin tuna for ther offshore waters. The inshore
super pangas had another banner week of wide-variety catches that
included 64 pargo, 61 mojarres, 2 dorado, 5 roosterfish, 10 corvina,
43 cochitos and 4 Sierra for their 10 fishing days.
Mazatlan Climate: Sun & cloud mix with excellent, warm days, temps
from 60 nights to 86 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with stable temps throughout the area at
80.5 degrees and excellent clarity.
Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish are coming from 22-25 miles
out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid.
Best Bait/Lure: Rigged mullet are the preferred bait for the
billfish and dorado but the tuna are being taken on feathers.
