Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

12-3-2009
Larry Edwards

Unfortunately, the excellent overall conditions, (weather, sea temps, clarity, calmness, etc.) seemed to have little effect on the fishing this past week and if you were targeting the billfish, there was about an 80% chance that you wouldn't get one. Even the dorado counts were down and there just doesn't appear to be any reasonable or known explanation. Perhaps it was just the pending full moon conditions? It's anyone's guess. The overall fish counts for 20 days fished reflected only 4 sailfish released, 1 yellowfin tuna and 10 dorado. The inshore catches reflected considerably more action for their 4 fishing days that produced 41 pargo, 10 cochitos, 24 palometa, 6 barracuda, 5 corvina and 49 mojarres.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny & warm days with temps from 55 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm for the week with stable sea temps at 80 degrees.

Best Fishing Area:

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged mullet were best for the billfish.
