Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

11-26-2009
Larry Edwards

The billfish bite is above 50% for Mazatlan for the first time in awhile and we are hoping that is a sign off things to come. The 28 fishing days with the offshore sportfishers, fishing a wide spectrum of the local coast, reflected a total of 3 blue marlin, (smaller fish, under 250 lbs.) 13 sailfish, 2 yellowfin tuna and 32 dorado. The inshore fishing aboard the super pangas was back to it's annual variety catches that included 15 corvina, 2 jack cravelle, 2 roosterfish, 1 dorado, 10 barracuda, 60 mojarres and 41 pargo, for their 7 days fished. It was constant action for the inshore fishing.

Mazatlan climate: Partly cloudy but nice warm days and very comfortable weather. Temps from 61 nights to 86 daytime highs.

Best Bait/Lures: Rigged baits for the sailfish and dorado, with quite a few dorado taken on the artificials, too. Blue Marlin taken on the larger artificials.

Best Fishing Area: There was no specific offshore area that resulted in a concentration of fish as the boats were scattered about from day to day.
