Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet
11-19-2009
Larry Edwards
Overall, a little slower fishing this past week for the Mazatlan
area, probably resulting from the fewer daily charters. The offshore
fishing conditions continue to be near perfect throughout the area
but the bulk of the billfish, like the Cabo area, have yet to show up
and the reasons are unexplainable. During the past week we reflected
a total of 23 offshore fishing days that resulted in 11 sailfish and
66 dorado for their efforts and only 1 single inshore fishing day
that resulted in 18 pargo, 16 cochitos and 8 barracuda.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and wonderful days, with clear skies
and temps from 62 nights to 86 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: 81-82.5 throughout the area offshore to inshore,
with good clarity. Very light surface breezes and very little swell
conditions. Overall, very good sea conditions.
Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish were taken in the 20 miles
range to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, but the boats that did
fish were working a wide span of the areas.
Best Bait/Lure: The sailfish preferred the rigged mullet again this
week and so did the dorado. However, some of the dorado were taken
on a variety of artificials, too, but no specific hot color.
