Chad Burton and Chris Borden
This week Isabella Lake rose to 86 percent of capacity, or 492,635 acre-feet. Isabella is known for quality Bass and rivals any other fishery in Southern California. This was apparent last weekend during the American Bass Association tournament, local angler Justin Neal landed a 14.96 lbs largemouth Bass. There have been multiple fish reported over 8 lbs the last couple weeks. The bass fishing here is heating up with good numbers of fish being caught all around the lake in 5 to 25-feet of water. Bass have been coming on a variety of offerings like Jigs, Buzzbaits, crankbaits, Texas rigged and Shakey head worms. Our contacts reported solid action around Rocky Point, French Gulch, The Flume, and Pine Point. The crappie bite has been great for some and slower for others. Boaters have had success trolling flicker shad. Get Bent Baits in various colors and live shiners have been working well. The catfish bite improved this week with good numbers coming on Dip Baits, nightcrawlers and cut baits. Anglers reported excellent trout fishing this week with easy limits. One of our contacts reported trolling around Isabella earlier this week and the bite was wide open. They caught and released over 50 trout up to 3 lbs with flicker shad and Tasmanian devils. Trout have also been coming on Powerbait, spinnerbaits and Get Bent Baits.
