Crane Prairie has been fishing fair

6-16-2023
Fly and Field Outfitters

Crane Prairie has been fishing fair. Some have reported decent days while others have reported slow fishing. The ones who are picking up fish have been using dark balanced leeches, olive and gray chironomids, and blood worms. Not much to speak of in terms of a callibaetis hatch yet but we shouldn’t be far off. Damsels will also become increasingly effective. Paddle trolling or casting and stripping flies is a good way to cover water and try and find some fish when the bite seems off. If you catch a few fish, work that area hard. If you fish somewhere for 15-20 minutes with no action, think about switching spots or flies.
