On the grounds in the early am we jumped right into a school that surprised with a good old fashioned day time response. There is nothing to compare to the visual of tuna flying out of the water and blowing out on our offerings. Especially bigger grade tuna. Sliding a fly lined sardine in the water with that backdrop is magic for all of us Southern California style live bait anglers; a sight that never gets old. Anglers were treated to the show a handful of times and a few fish climbed on the lines. Settling in to the opportunity we hit schools throughout the day accumulating a decent score on 60-90 pound fish. Then the night came. Strongly focused on the largest fish available we probably cost ourselves a few opportunities. but the draw of that big, Mother Lode school had us on the hunt. In the end we only had one good whack at them passing most of the dark a little frustrated with about a million fish that chose not to bite. The final day tomorrow will again be dedicated to the bluefin pursuit as we continue to reach for the gold ring until the carousel stops.
Todays image features Royal Star angler Corey Freeman with a daytime beauty picked off on the fly lined sardine and 40# fluorocarbon.
