Fish continue to make their way up the river
10-28-2022
The Fly Shop
Fish continue to make their way up the river. Best area to fish is going to be above Junction City, there do not seem to be a lot of fish below. Flows are now at the winter time 300 CFS, so things are bony if you are in a hard boat. Fish are making it through all of the weirs, check the tailouts in the morning and fish the holding water during the day. The usual suspects will work now if you are dead drifting nymphs, Black Rubbelegs and a Red Copper John should get the job done. Thrown on an egg pattern if you see salmon. If you are swinging, the Copper Beaded Assassin, Green Butt Silver Hilton, or your favorite swinging pattern are both winners. Try one of Hoody's Hangers for a skater. You will not go wrong.
We are coming up into prime time for those of you who like to swing flies. We have spots in our Spey Clinic and 3 Day Spey School in November, contact Bryan or Chris in Outfitters if you would like more info.

Access To the Trinity River
The Trinity has many publicly accessible areas with good wading opportunities during the steelhead season. Stop by the shop and we'd be happy to point you in the right direction.
Steelhead Fishing Can be Frustrating
These anadromous rainbow trout are known as the 'Fish of a Thousand Casts.' For good reason! The learning curve can be quite steep learning when and where to go, and what type of water to target. Our Professional Guide Staff has decades of experience guiding the Trinity River for steelhead. A day spent with one of our guides will get you up to speed much more quickly.
Recommended Equipment & Setups
Early Summer Run Steelhead on the Trinity River will take swung flies readily. Spey rods are becoming an increasingly popular method to swing flies. The Fly Shop's Signature Spey Rods are an economical way to get into a great Spey rig. Add a Ross Cimmaron II Fly Reel and a Scandi shooting head, a leader, tippet and fly and you'll be in business.
