Hat Creek valley is in great shape
10-13-2022
The Fly Shop
We have clear skies and cooling weather up here in Nor Cal and the Hat Creek valley is in great shape. If you head up to the lower section of the creek above Hwy 299 you will have a lot of success fishing Rubberlegs. Highstick or dry-dropper, this is a proven tactic and it is working now. Tricos are coming off later in the morning, you can get some chances at hooking fish on dry patterns. The Film Critic in BWO and the Trico are both good ones to use, and don't overlook the Griffith's Gnat. The BWO hatch later in the day will also have fish looking up, the Milla Time BWO will work on these picky fish. Drowned Tricos fished under an Adams will likewise get the fish eating the spinners. Some Caddis continue to emerge, sparse Birds' Nest swung in the runs below 299 towards evening is a good time to spend the last part of your day.
Hot Flies: TB Drowned Rusty Spinner, Rubberlegs, Sweet Pea Jigged Baetis, Pheasant Tails, Mercer's Missing Link, and Green Drakes
