The Fall River fished well this past week
10-29-2021
Fly and Field Outfitters
The Fall River fished well this past week. The action isn’t quite as red hot as it was a week or two ago but it’s still a very productive fishery. It’ll be a bit drier out there this week, but the cool weather isn’t going far. There were some really excellent blue wing olive hatches last week and there’s no reason they won’t continue. Most were around size 16 - 18 but be prepared with size 20s and 22s as well. Midges are also important this time of year. If the fish are rising but you can’t see anything on the water, it’s likely they’re eating midges. Nymphing is consistent with the usual patterns, midges, baetis, and other small flies. Remember that there are more midge patterns than just zebra midges. The fish in the fall see more zebra midges than any other pattern, swap it up and the trout might get more interested. The heavy euro-style flies do very well and euro nymphing outperforms indicator fishing 9 times out of 10 on the fall.
