Cabo San Lucas Fish Report- The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and Fish Cabo Fleet
3-12-2009
Larry Edwards
The March marlin madness continues right into the middle of the month
and the anglers are loving it. Usually, March is in the doldrums in
Cabo, but perhaps the global warming theories are coming to the area
and having some effect? We'll take it and we like it. The high boat
for this week was again, "GAVIOTA VIII", skippered by Captain Juan
Dominquez, with 25 stripers for 7 days fished, with all but one
released. The "FISH CABO", skippered by Captain Gil Marquez,
reflected 14 stripers released for 2 fishing days. Overall combined
fish counts for the boats for a total of 57 days fished reflected 156
stripers, (146 released) and 48 dorado. Just a banner week for March.
Cabo Climate: A few partly cloudy days but overall, very good
weather with temps from 60 nights to 84 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: With exception to a couple of cooler water flukes
extending southerly from Cabo Falso, the temps remained fairly stable
from the Golden Gate Bank to Las Frailes, at about 72 degrees. Temp
break just outside the thousand fathom curve rises to 75.
Best Fishing Area: The Golden Gate Bank is still the mega-marlin
hot spot for the area.
Best Bait/Lure: Live bait is the ticket and mackerel is the
preferred bait. However, even sardines and caballitos are working
well, too.
Live Bait Supply: Remains very good and still opportunities to
replenish the supply at the Golden Gate Bank.
