Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet
3-5-2009
Larry Edwards
There were a couple more swordfish sightings this week but
unfortunately, no bait takers. We saw an upswing in Mako sharks this
week with most of the sharks in the 60-80 lb. ranges and an
occasional fish that exceeded the 100 lb. mark. Billfish action in
general, is slow going and the skippers are searching to their outer
limits without any luck. The inshore action has been very good,
especially for the bottom fish and even some of the cruisers were
participating with the inshore action. Overall catches reflected for
the offshore fishing for 26 fishing days reflected 7 stripers and 10
Mako sharks, along with a single dorado. However, the inshore boats,
reporting for 11 days, reflected limits of Mojarres, 8 vaguetas, 68
pargo, 40 cabrilla, 13 jack cravelle and 78 cochitos.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly sunny and warm days, temps from 58 nights
to 83 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions: While the water temp picked up a bit, (74-75
degrees) there was still a greenish tint to the color that kept the
fish from reacting favorably to the increased temperature.
Generally, it was pretty flat and calm for the week.
Best Fishing Area: There is no area of concentration of fish at this
time.
Best Lure/Bait: Rigged mullet were the best for the stripers and
Mako sharks.
