Mazatlan Fish Report- The Aries Sportfishing Fleet

1-22-2009
Larry Edwards

Very slow on anglers this past week, resulting in a lower fish count for the fleet. In conjunction with the full moon and lack of anglers, the fleet still averaged a 50% catch rate for the offshore waters and reflected 5 stripers, 4 sailfish, 2 dorado, 2 mako shark and 4 yellowfin tuna, (50-pounders) for their 15 days fished. The inshore action was down to 2 days fished that reflected 20 pargo and 45 mojarres. We look for a better fishing week to come with the water temps moving up a few degrees.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps from 54 nights to 84 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Very good! Temps have increased this week to 75-76 degrees for the offshore waters, nearly calm waters with light surface breezes and little swell conditions.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish came from the southwest of the Marina El Cid, 15-25 miles.

Best Lure/Bait: Most of the billfish still being taken on slow trolled rigged mullet baits.

Some of the boats were reporting two to 4...... Read More
