11-27-2008
Larry Edwards

The Mazatlan fishing action, both inshore and offshore, has offered very good fishing for the past week. The Aries Fleet, reporting for 42 offshore days fished, reflected 10 blue marlin, (2-300 lb. fish) 1 striper, 47 sailfish, 30 dorado 1 yellowfin tuna, (60 lbs.) and 22 sierra. The inshore super panga fishing has been red hot, especially for the sierra and it has been an easy limit fishing situation in conjunction with 15 pargo, 45 cochitos, 5 big red snapper and 1 dorado for 8 days fished. According to Geronimo Cevallos, the fishing has been getting better and better, especially for the blue marlin and sailfish, with all of the boats having a fair shot at billfish, everyday.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy days with temps ranging from 63 nights to 86 daytime highs, extraordinarily pleasant conditions.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm, temps from 80 inshore to 83 offshore, very light tropical surface breezes.

Best Fishing Area: The boats are moving a little farther south now and fishing at about 20-25 miles southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: Most of the blue marlin taken on live bonito and most of the sailfish taken on rigged mullet baits. Inshore sierra biting on most everything that wiggles in the water, especially the feathers on shinny spoons.
