8-14-2008
Larry Edwards

The offshore fishing has picked up a bit for billfish, with the fleet reporting a mix that included blue marlin, sails and stripers, with a catch ratio of a little more than one per boat day fished. Overall catch reports for the offshore cruisers reflected 4 blue marlin, (under 250 lbs.) 3 stripers, 25 sailfish, 5 dorado and 47 yellowfin tuna for 30 days fishing. Inshore action has slowed, and the 4 super panga fishing days produced 1 sailfish, 11 dorado and 30 cochitos for their efforts.

Mazattlan Climate: Mostly cloudy, some PM & night showers, temps from 77 nights to 91 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Mostly calm with light surface breezes, temps from 88-89 throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish are from the 22-25 miles mark, out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged trolling baits are best for the sailfish
