San Pablo Reservoir Sportfishing Report

GENERAL CONDITIONS:
The weather has remained inconsistent. Now, with all the wildfires going on, there is a haze that has moved in over the lake. Not overpowering, but noticeable, as it is in most of the Bay Area. Trout fishing has slowed down but, there are still some nice whoppers being caught. We will begin planting catfish some time later this week. The water level has been brought up a bit and is now at 293 feet above sea level. It has taken some of the water clarity away, but you can still see a good 5-6 feet near the shore. The current surface water temperature is 69 degrees.

HOURS:
San Pablo Reservoir is open seven days a week from 6:00 am to 8:00 pm seven days a week. All boats need to be off the water by 7:00pm everyday.

The boat Launch is open Thursday through Sunday from 7:00 am to 3:00pm. During these times all vessels entering the water must be inspected for Quagga and Zebra Mussels.

Please visit our website for more information on our Quagga mussel program. Just added - 7 and 30 day Quagga inspection passes.

PLANTS:
We will be planting 1,280 pounds of catfish this week - most likely by Friday 6/27.

TROUT:
The trout catch rate has slowed down. They are still being brought in by shore anglers using Power Bait, Power Eggs, and nightcrawlers. If you are trolling, try a jointed Rapala. The big trout are still out there - at least three rainbows weighing over five pounds were caught since Saturday.

BASS:
The bass seem to be aggressive for those fishing for them. Another monster was caught last Tuesday with a worm. (See whoppers, below.)

CATFISH:
The catfish have been biting. Most anglers use worms or chicken livers. There were even a few 'cats caught by people trolling. Next week there will definitely be more catfish news after our plant.

WHOPPERS:
A big largemouth was brought in by Larry Wiggins of Oakland with a worm by the Main Rec. It was a whopping 13 pounds, 8oz. It is our largest recorded bass this season.

Ron Youngs of Pleasant Hill caught the big rainbow this week, 9lbs. 1.6oz. caught on a renegade lure by the Dam.

On Sunday (6/22) Marcel Harris of Santa Barbara landed a 7lb. 6.4oz. rainbow trout by the Tower using yellow Power Eggs.
