Cabo San Lucas Fish Report- The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet and Fish Cabo Fleet

6-19-2008
Larry Edwards

The "Gaviota I" was high boat for the week, reporting 5 stripers for a single fishing day. Four were released and one kept that died in the fight. Overall, the fleet fished 20 days and reflected an average of a billfish per boat day. The Fish Cabo Fleet reported in for a total of 3 days fished this past week, reflecting a total of 6 stripers released. Overall combined counts for the Gaviota and Fish Cabo Fleets reflected 26 stripers, (19 releases) 10 dorado and 12 yellowfin tuna for The interesting part of this report is the fish are scattered far & wide and the better fishing has been from the Jaime Bank, (on the Pacific side) to Gray Rock, (also on the Pacific side). I can't remember another year when the boats were fishing the Pacific side in June. Lots of fish being seen & baited all day long, but the actual, getting'em to bite, continues to be very difficult and takes a lot of luck.

Cabo Climate: Picture perfect weather, sunny and clear, temps from 71 nights to 98 daytime highs and light tropical breezes.

Best Fishing Area: From the Jaime Bank to Gray Rock and outside to 15 miles.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait is a must for these stubborn to get to bite fish.

Live Bait Supply: Remains good, even through the full moon, (so far).
