Settled in

A somewhat different program for much of the day as we logged a few miles in transit searching for those elusive wahoo. A handful of snip off's and a free swimmer spotted amongst the tuna suggested a recent influx, or at least more around. But our results suggested otherwise. We caught none, and saw none. Switching gears mid day we settled in to some fine action on the better grade yellowfin with a few good yellowtail mixed in. Though far from limits many opted to release one or two and/or simply enjoy the setting as the afternoon passed into evening. And a beautiful evening it was. Flat calm, tranquil – all senses were appeased by a twilight suffused with soft pastels and gentle vagrant breezes. In a perfect setting we shut down, settled in, and absorbed the occasion as one profoundly special. This is a privelege that can not be overstated, or better appreciated. Photo today features a very special friend to Royal Star, The Sport Fishing Association of California, and, most importantly, all recreational anglers throughout Mexico and the U.S.A. Juan Acereto, Director of Saltwater fishing for the Sport Fishing Federation of Mexico, and President of the Sinaloa Sport Fishing Association, has battled these tuna on just about every form of gear during this voyage flat wearing himself out in the process. Juan landed this 100# class fish on the Shimano Tranx after a grueling, 45 minute battle that just about did him in. Exhibiting that blissful exhaustion that every avid tuna angler desires Juan is pictured here with his prize and Diego Nuno on the gaff.
