Harvest

Nice steady scratching today; no big barn burner. But that was ok. The variety and quality maintained attention and enthusiasm at the rail in conditions sublime. Yellowfin tuna in the 60 – 100 pound class and 20 – 30 pound yellowtail were the order of the day. Once again the afternoon show was a highlight as what appeared to be miles worth of fish, literally tuna jumping for miles, came up in the mid afternoon revealing the full potential of this zone. Such above surface displays really put the impact of our miniscule harvest into perspective. As I watched the matinee I couldn't help but relate what we were seeing to what we actually catch as a whole. The reality is that we can't affect it taking them one at a time; there are simply too many. Of course that doesn't absolve us of our responsibility as recreational anglers to harvest wisely. But it does settle the heart to know that we are enjoying a resource at no measureable expense to the enviornment. With that in mind we settled in at day's end ready to have back at it tomorrow. Plenty of time remaining and fine conditions suggest more success to come. This group of anglers is having a fantastic time living a dream that is presently reality. Today's images feature long time Royal Star angler's Tom Yeager and Mike Bontrager, a.k.a. “Buford”, with their “stock” seventy five pound class yellowfin tuna's.
