Incredible show

Arriving at the famed outside island mid afternoon we were greeted initially by a picture different than what has become the norm here over the past several weeks. Vast areas of 50 – 120 pound yellowfin tuna were not immediately visible instilling a fleeting sense that the recent pattern may have changed on the back side of the now waning moon. But it didn't. A pleasant tour mapping out the potential zones revealed plenty to be had; it was simply a matter of time. When the show finally began anglers were treated to a sight that has become the signature of this zone so far this season. Jumpers everywhere – hundreds, thousands of them pursuing doomed flying fish with acrobatic vigor. Nothing motivates an avid tuna angler quite like the sight of beautiful grade yellowfin tuna flying out of the water for miles in every direction. The sight alone, combined with that of the distant spectacular geography of this magical island, was enough to please the senses. Throw in a few spirited, beautiful grade yellowfin tuna to pull on and the picture was complete. Paradise - a recreational angler's dream. Finishing the day with the exact amount of catching that we had hoped for we settled in for the night in the flat calm of a protected zone awaiting the first full day of fishing tomorrow. We will almost certainly shift gears during the day spot targeting big yellowtail while picking our shots at the yellowfin tuna. Today's photo features first time Royal Star angler Fausto Gutierrez who joins from Mazatlan with Isla Cedros native crewman Diego Nuno hoisting Fasto's seventy pound class yellowfin tuna over the rail.
