"Another choppy day out here on the shallow," wrote Excel skipper Shawn Steward November 29, "but we were able to sit on the anchor all day and pick a few big fish. Almost all of our fish came on sardines with the exception of a 217 for Jan Howard that she caught on the kite and Tom Carlisle who got a 175 both on squid.
"The other big fish were caught by Jerry Thurgeson who caught a 185 on a sardine and a balloon. Jim Carlisle caught a 207 on a sardine, Pat Gallagher got a 221 on a sardine and 100 pound line, Jaime Massion picked up a 227 on a sardine and Mike Stiny got the big fish of the day with a 271 pound yellowfin tuna that he caught on 100 pound Big Game and a 7\0 Eagle Claw 2005 circle hook and a sardine.
"The rest of the fish we caught were 80 to 160 pounds and we are hoping to add to our big fish tally tomorrow so we will check in later. The picture I am sending is of Mike Stiny with his 270 pound yellowfin."
