Royal Polaris Fishing Report

7-5-2016
Royal Polaris Crew

Hello everyone; Happy 4th of July, and boy did the fireworks happen on the Royal Polaris today, with excellent Yellowtail fishing.

But before I get into the report, I would like to thank George Kuechel and his family for helping making this trip fun for everyone on the trip, to including the crew. George has been fishing with the Royal Polaris since the early 80’s, making many 16 plus day trips, and many more trips in the summer and fall.

Georges personnel best Yellowfin tuna is a 295 pound beast. So from the crew and office personnel of the Royal Polaris, we would like to say thank you George. Now back to what happened today.

Most of the fish were in the 18 to 25 pound range, with most of the fish in the 22 to 25 pound category. We did have some fish over the 30 pound mark. It was bent rods for all aboard. We arrive to the ridge at 09:00 hours, and the first stop was a bust, but it didn’t take long to find a good school that wanted to bite.

Once we got our daily limits, we pulled the anchor and headed out west to Uncle Sam Bank, looking for Yellowfin tuna. When we arrived we did see a couple of sonar school, but they were moving fast, and we couldn’t get the boat over the top, but the water had turned green from the nice blue looking water from last week. Lucky angler today was Willie Leung of San Francisco with a 15 pound White Sea Bass and a nice Grouper, pulls a limits of Yellowtail.

After lunch, which was a 4th of July special, with hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni salad, potato salad, baked beans, barbeque chicken, just to name a few items on the menu. Most of our passengers had run out of gas, and most took the afternoon off, resting there arms, and just enjoying the sunshine.

Our weather did pick up some, with a 10 to 12 knots of breeze, but it’s comfortable, keeping it cool. We made a move to the south, hoping to get into some more Yellowtail action and may be get a few Groupers and White Sea Bass, before we start heading north. So with that note, wish us luck. Team Kuechel.

If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 226-8092 to get in on the action.

Hello everyone; Our weather is just out o this world, with flat seas, clear skies, and all the sunshine you could ask for. After breakfast, Jonathan gave a seminar on the how’s, what’s and could happen. Once he was done, the crew went to work getting everyone ready for battle. We made a few stops, one at San Benitos, and another at Cedros. All we could muster or our efforts was one lone Whitefish. So...... Read More
