Baby Giants

Nice morning conditions greeted the tuna pursuit fueling optimism for the mission. A couple of fruitless zigs and zags clouded the first couple of hours then we got on them. Unfortunately however the main vein consisted of 6-8 pound “baby giants” with a few standouts pushing 10 or 11 pounds. Dammit! While the little fellas provided a fairly entertaining diversion they were far from welcome on board. A few made it into the hatch but the majority were released with good tidings. And the day marched on. Cruddy afternoon seas and water conditions urged us northward heeding the call of something, anything better to be found. A little inclement weather on the outside tomorrow motivates a variety effort along the coast. Anglers, who did a lot of sitting and waiting today, will have chance to wet a line throughout the day targeting anything special that happens along. Flat calm conditions will grace the effort before we return offshore again on our final day in what appears will be bumpy conditions. Photos today, courtesy of charter master Larry Brown, feature veteran anglers Andy McDonald with a dandy white sea bass and Dave McGrouther all smiles with a nice yellowtail.

Excellent catching on our summer “bread and butter” fish that are both epic brawlers and superb table fare. Filling out limits, save for a few slots remaining in the event we encounter a real trophy or two up the line, we shift gears tomorrow heading offshore in search of the...... Read More

A successful time of it this morning with fine action on 15 pound class yellowtail to get the catching portion of the voyage rolling. Not wishing to get too carried away on this grade of fish we opted for a couple of go around's before moving on to explore some of the more obscure folds of the Southern Baja seascape. A little variety, and a lot more small yellowtail that were released, occupied the morning before we chucked the towel...... Read More
