Weather:??Temperatures have been in the 70's with mild winds. As a general rule, Santa Ana winds do not negatively affect the lake.

Bass: ??????Big Bass were hitting big baits this week.. Swimbait fishing??remained the primary method for getting the hogs. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, Spro BBZ, and Huddlestons were the most reported big baits. Drop shotting plastics remained a mainstay for at least a few fish. Ice jig reports were still coming through as a valid technique for deep fishing. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass. Kevin Hitchcock of Murrieta got a 4.29 pound bass fishing the east dam with a swimbait. John Getgen of El Cajon got a 7.95 pound bass fishing with a swimbait. Scott Eberhard of Big Bear Lake was exceedingly proud of his daughter Janelle who at the age of eleven caught her first swimbait fish. Janelle got a 7.1 pound bass fishing the north shore with a BBZ. The 100% Bass tournament this week generated outstanding limits. Pat Kinery and David Avina got top stick with 30.55 pounds.

Trout: ????Shore anglers continue to own the trout bite. Trout were biting from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area, but the holdover trout were not showing. ??Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and nightcrawlers were all fooling the trout. Chris Mora of Hemet got a 6.84 pound trout fishing with a jig from the third cove of shoreline. Nine year old Cynthia Cliffton of Downey got a 6.68 pound rainbow fishing with nightcrawlers in the second cove of shoreline. Grover Kungman of Aguanga got a 4.3 pound trout fishing with a nightcrawler at the end of the shoreline fishing area. Shore angler Shayne Tucker of Cherry Valley got a 7.8 pound trout fishing with a mini jig in the third cove. Jim Mehan of Winchester got a 5 pound trout fishing from shore with a nightcrawler. Tanner Kiest of Yucaipa got a 5.29 pound trout fishing in the marina with a mini jig. Nine year old Annelisa Zamora of Hemet got a 4.02 pound trout fishing from shore with nightcrawlers.

Striper: ??Striped bass showed no signs of slowing this week. Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing points near the marina or on the inlet remain proven spots. Pete Hoffman of foothill Ranch got a 17.6 pound striper throwing a swimbait near Rawson cove. Nhan Doan of Moreno Valley got two striper at 13.5 and 11.7 pounds fishing from shore with a swimbait. Dustin Surgent of Temecula got a 12.0 pound striper fishing from shore with a swimbait. Akira cornell of San Jacinto got a 12.12 pound striper fishing from shore with a swimbait. Stephen Kosal of Ontario got a 12.4 pound striper with a Z Plug trolled at 60 feet through the marina.

Catfish:????There is still a strong catfish bite at DVL.??Best bet is the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the rock quarry or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.??Gary Stinson of Hemet got two blue cats at 9 and 10 pounds fishing with shrimp 15 feet under the wave attenuator. Craig Allard of riverside reported five catfish caught on the north side of the east dam.

Panfish: There is still a panfish bite at DVL and most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. The panfish have recessed from the banks in recent weeks. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method. Craig Allard of Riverside got a 1.84 pound red ear on the east dam fishing with a nightcrawler at 25 feet.

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.

Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.

Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.

Lake Record Blue Gill: John Arganda, of?? Menifee, broke the lake pan fish record by bringing in a 3.06 pound blue gill. He got it on a night crawler fishing near the saddle dam.

Lake Record Catfish January 19, 2007: Congratulations to Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center! He caught a 32.80 pound catfish. He was fishing at 60 feet with a Pig N' Jig around the first island on the north shore.

Lake Record Trout, March 12, 2005: Shawn Luhmann got a 11.30 pound rainbow trout on on the shoreline fishing area.
