A calm, relaxing ride north doing a little fishing for fun, and the stew pot, along the way. Beautiful scenery new to most of these anglers demonstrated to even the uber veterans that we still have a few original options in our repertoire. Time is the most challenging obstacle when it comes to tours off the beaten path. In this case we are golden, and took full advantage.

An easy afternoon cruise following the morning fun settled one and all. Muscles sore from reefing on quality yellows yesterday were rested as we all took advantage of the travel time to sling a few yarns, have some laughs, and enjoy the good company of friends old and new. This was another ideal example of how diverse, and how satisfying, long range fishing typically is. Amongst like minded individuals time passes all too quick calling anglers back to resume the fun.

Offshore returns to the docket tomorrow as we set up the final push with tuna in mind. A few yellowfin to round out the catch and fill the gaps then back to the search for the jumbos that lurk somewhere beyond. Photo number one today features master angler and Royal Star veteran Kevan Yamahara with a fine example of our quarry. This eighty pound class bluefin tuna, and a few handfuls more of his cohorts, will do just fine. Photo number two will do as well; another fathometer image of one of the schools under us a few days prior. This was a good one.

A few "shakers" occasionally flashed through, prompting the auto release response from one and all, but this grade overall is what we are always on the lookout for: good fishing. By far the standout feature of the day was the action on the surface iron; the...... Read More

8/11/14 A lot of looking today as we crossed the bad lands heading south. What a desert; no birds, no life - a sterile ocean transmitting the obvious to my obstinate refusal to eliminate this zone entirely, before today. Now I am convinced. We gave this zone, above and below, two thorough runs in the past week. Now we can check it off the list for a while with a clear conscience. Setting up a few days of coastal yellowtail fishing......
