Fish Report for 4-17-2009
I might have been a little harsh in describing yesterday's 46 Wahoo and 6 yellowfin tuna a less than worthy result. It's just that the lofty standards established on these incredible adventures have admittedly skewed my expectations. That being the case, yesterday's results at Isla Socorro left nothing to be desired with the action beginning at daylight and continuing straight through dark. Aside from completing our official business with the Navy garrison, the only breaks anglers had from the action were self imposed as fishing while both anchored and drifting was virtually non-stop throughout the day. There were definitely a few lulls were one had to work at getting a bite, but there never really was a period when one's efforts would not be rewarded with a tuna if they were at the rail with a bait in the water. The average grade of the mid day fish was fifty to ninety pounds with the early morning and evening producing the bigger one hundred to two hundred pound models. All told we enjoyed a fantastic day of catching with one hundred thirty eight tags deployed. Big fish of the day went to Dr. Dave Hall with a 210 he man handled on the big gear in short order. Otherwise there were several one eighty to one nineties as well as plenty in the one hundred to one hundred forty pound class. Epic day, epic conditions, epic bait, epic group of anglers, and a full week of fishing to go, man are we fortunate to be part of this. Needless to say for now we have no plans to relocate for at least a couple of days. Every day is different however so we will see.

I have to admit however that even the Wahoo left much to be desired as the size range of the all the specimens tagged and released was somewhere between puny and small. Not much to get excited about...... Read More

The southerly push continues following a quick stop in Cabo San Lucas to embark the majority of our anglers and our counterpart in the Revillagigedo tagging project from the Mexican National Fisheries Institute or Instituto Nacional de Pesca. I have to say that in yesterday's case it was a very good thing that the stop lasted only a few hours as the spring break activities on the beach and around Royal Star had me fearful that one or two of......
