Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

This was more like the San Benedicto we are accustomed to encountering as we began the voyage at this barren volcanic upheaval with a paltry quantity of tuna for the effort though the Wahoo did come through for us as a consolation. I have to admit however that even the Wahoo left much to be desired as the size range of the all the specimens tagged and released was somewhere between puny and small. Not much to get excited about yet although as usual the startling, prehistoric scenery of and around this island did not disappoint. Also, and perhaps most importantly, we depart San Benedicto loaded for bear with every available space topped off with bait in preparation for the fishing to come - we hope.

As I mentioned, such action, or lack thereof, is not uncommon at San Benedicto. That is not to say that this island is a write off; a quick reference of the reports from our February visit to San Benedicto tells that story, but, more often than not this island does not offer her fruits easily so slow fishing here does not come as a surprise.

As such we depart without regret in search of greener pastures at Isla Socorro tomorrow and beyond. Good weather, plentiful time, and jugged with a perfect load of ideal bait. If opportunity is in our path, we are now position to make the most if it.

Nice, calm, easy, and uneventful - just how we like it; especially when breaking in new machinery. Aside from one short stop to shore up our victuals, we enjoyed a pleasant day of rigging and relaxing as the miles ticked off one by one. All is well, we are on schedule for a noon to 1300 arrival in Cabo San Lucas on the fifteenth, and our load of sardines is outstanding. We couldn't ask for a better scenario so we'll...... Read More
